What Has Kanyathon Been Until 2019
Since its inception in 2011, every run Kanyathon has had has been pleasantly challenging and equally successful in terms of participation and donation. The first year saw 400 participants running for the noble cause and the occasion was graced by the Bengaluru FC football team, owned by the JSW group and led by Mr. Ashley Westwood, head coach and ex-Manchester United footballer.
Kanyathon has seen chief guests like Manjula M, Gold Medalist in Javelin Throw – Para Athletics Championships 2017, Dola Banerjee, Arjuna Award Winner in Archery, Rajeev Gowda, Member of Parliament, Actress Akshara Hassan, Singer and Actress Vasundhara Das, as well as ISRO women scientists who have all been privy and have taken part in our effort to save the girl child and empower women.
From 600 participants in 2011 to over 4000 participants in 2019, Kanyathon has come a long way. This sort of success is all due to the support of all who have actively participated as well as the effort of the IFIM family.
2019 brought in a new wave of success. Having guests of honor like Flying Officer Rashi Raina, one among the first 6 women fighter pilots in IAF and Olympic Swimmer, Sajan Prakash only goes to show the immense popularity of the event and the inviolable belief that people have on the cause of saving the girl child.
We’ve also been generously supported by our generous sponsors like Infosys, Columbia Asia Hospitals, Address Maker, Jeep, FBB, Cycle World amongst a few. Without our sponsors, we wouldn’t be able to continue our Kanyathon journey.
Through media coverage, our event has been widely viewed and appreciated for its cause. Live media coverage has helped participants express their feelings and views before, during and after the run.
