Dr. Chandan Kumar
Dr. Chandan Kumar has been pursuing economics for more than 15 years. He has completed his Ph.D. from Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai. Before joining Jagdish Sheth School of Management, he has taught economics at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), an institute of national importance. He has also delivered guest lectures at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and Gokhale Institute of Politics & Economics, Pune. He has also served to UNICEF and National Institute of Labour Economics Research and Development (NILERD), New Delhi.
His research areas of interest are ‘Infrastructure Development & Financing’, ‘Contract Farming & Market Structures’ and ‘Human Development Issues’. His doctoral research focused on contractual and institutional design issues of infrastructure development using the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, where he examined the contracts adopted for the highways development program in India; and analysed their performance across the contract types. He is currently working on contract farming issues & it's supporting institutional set-up with a special focus on India. He is also working on the on-going transition in the 'organized retail sector', its implications for the stakeholders and following regulatory challenges.
He also takes keen interest in the human development issues. He has co-authored two books on the subject matter: ‘India Human Development Report 2011’, under the aegis of NITI Aayog, published by Oxford University Press; and ‘Gujarat: Perspectives in Development’, 2019.
